NEW this year...SKCV Green Credits...Medical supplies...

Sponsor a child - £30 a month.

Our child sponsorship scheme has been developed in direct response to supporters requests. At SKCV, where many children live in one community, we have to avoid the impression that one child is favoured at the expense of others, so our scheme allows supporters to sponsor one child in a class, without identifying that child.

Each class will send its supporters news about the whole class twice a year, giving supporters a greater depth of involvement in the life of the villages.

The cost of sponsoring a child is based on our costs of food, clothing, medicines, accommodation and education an average of £1 a day for everything!

SKCV Green Credits - £10 per credit

Sustainability is at the heart of SKCV’s ethos and we are constantly looking for new ways to minimise our impact on the environment and reduce our costs.

We pledge that every penny you spend on SKCV Green Credits will be used by SKCV to fund its low energy and sustainable initiatives.

Examples include:

  • solar powered outdoor lighting
  • solar powered water heating
  • preparation of land for cultivation of vegetables
  • supplies for and maintenance of the wormery
  • maintenance of the biogas plant
  • cattle feed – as well as milk they produce fuel for the biogas plant!

As our Amodini girls’ centre develops, they will be adopting several of the measures that are already routine at the Prema Vihar boys’ village, so funds dedicated to environmentally friendly measures will be very welcome.

This is not a carbon offsetting scheme, but you might view any credits you buy as a way of balancing out some of your carbon footprint – or that of a friend or relative. For that reason, you can buy as many green credits as you wish, whenever you want.

£5 Uniform for a boy.

Each boy that comes to the SKCV village is provided with 2 T-shirts and shorts. Your gift will provide for one boy for one year.

£7.50 Clothes for a girl.

Each girl that comes to the SKCV village is provided with material to make her own dress or sari. Your gift will provide material for one girl for one year.

£10 Seeds for a year.

The children at our residential villages tend their own vegetable gardens. They can then sell the produce to the SKCV kitchens to earn pocket money, so the seeds of self sufficiency are sown.

£12 Feed a child for a month.

That’s all it takes for us to feed the boys and girls at our residential villages or at the night shelter. You can buy food for a month or for a longer period if you wish.

£15 Educate a child.

With this gift we can provide a child at our non-formal school with pens, pencils, exercise books and other essential school material for a whole year.

£300 Buy a cow and calf.

For those very special friends or memorable occasions. You don’t often have the chance to buy a cow and calf, but now you do. You know you’ll be giving a gift for life that will provide vital supplies of milk and manure and you can even name them if you wish!

£20 Medical supplies for a year.

In our sick bays and the hospital in the nightshelter, our staff deal with a wide range of injuries and diseases ranging from cuts and sprains to malaria and typhoid.

Voluntary support from trained doctors supplements the staff’s nursing care, but medicines and supplies still cost a lot. Your gift would help to provide essential supplies in the hospital.

Whatever you choose to give, we guarantee that every penny will be spent on the gift you select. In the unlikely event that any gift is over-subscribed, we will contact you to ask how you would prefer the money to be allocated.

What’s more, if you are a UK taxpayer and you sign the Gift Aid form, we can reclaim tax to make your gift worth even more!
